In April after
marking its 20th anniversary with the accreditation of the first
six-star restrooms, the RAS, Restroom Association (Singapore),
continued its commemoration with the launch of its Happy Toilets @
Preschools Booklet and Handbook in August. With former RAS President Ms
Tan Puay Hoon stepping down in August, I wish to extend my deepest
appreciation to her for selflessly helming the RAS for the past ten years.
I strongly believe that her exemplary contributions will remain an
inspiration to everyone.
Ms Tan’s last act as
President before stepping down was officiating the launch of the Happy
Toilets @ Preschools Booklet and Handbook. She invited Senior
Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of
Social and Family Development A/Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim to launch
the booklet and handbook at Cherie Hearts @ Charlton. Ms Tan has always been
very passionate about preschool education on good restroom etiquette, as
she strongly believes it is paramount for user education to start from
young. The sooner we instil graciousness into them, the better we improve
restroom experience for every user.
I am honoured to be part
of the leadership renewal to mark the 20th anniversary of RAS. I hope my
key areas of expertise in facilities management, buildings services design,
operations, maintenance, configuration management and business continuity
planning will be relevant to the vision and mission of RAS. I also hope
all partners from the public, private and people sectors will continue to
display their strong support as we continue to forge stronger ties and
partnerships in many years to come.
We are gearing up for our flagship LOO
(Let’s Observe Ourselves) Awards ceremony which will be organised
on 19 November, World Toilet Day, with the launch of our latest Fourth Edition
Guide to Better Public Toilet Design & Maintenance. A seminar will
also be held to share with participants about the latest updates to the
Guide. We look forward to your unwavering support to join us in
commemorating our 20th anniversary.
